Botox works by using a natural substance to limit the movement of targeted facial muscles. Your ability to speak, eat, and create facial expressions depends on the muscles in your face. These muscles are also responsible for pulling your skin into folds, lines, and wrinkles.
The substance used to create Botox is called Clostridium botulinum and is deadly in certain concentrations. The volume used in Botox is carefully controlled and perfectly safe. Many people are surprised to learn that Botox has been used in medical treatments since 1989 and for cosmetic applications for more than 15 years.
The highly skilled practitioners at YS Aesthetics have the education, training, and experience to know exactly where to place Botox injections to achieve optimal results, as well as how much of the medication to administer. There are also a number of other neuromodulators that work in a similar manner.
Botox is FDA-approved to temporarily reduce the appearance of frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet. The medication is also used off-label to ease lines and wrinkles in other areas of the face.
Crow’s feet are the sunburst-shaped wrinkles that extend from the corners of your eyes. They’re usually most pronounced when you smile or laugh, but over time, these lines can deepen and be visible no matter your facial expression.
Horizontal forehead lines run from side to side across your forehead. They are most visible when you raise your eyebrows, but like crow’s feet, they can eventually remain at all times.
Frown lines are the vertical furrows that develop between your eyebrows. Often visible when you squint your eyes or frown, these lines are sometimes called parenthesis lines.
It takes just a few moments to get Botox treatment, even if you’re treating more than one area. There is no need for advance preparation or recovery time, so you can go right back to your day after your visit, which takes around 30 minutes from start to finish.
Your results will develop over the next couple of days and remain for around four months. At that point, you’ll begin to see your lines and folds gradually deepening and can decide if you’d like to return for another round of injections.
If you have additional questions about Botox, call the office to schedule a visit or book online in just a few moments.
